The Bunnahabhain Distillery on Islay is known for its unpeated malts, which are distilled from malted barley. This 2018 vintage was aged in a single sherry cask that had been used for aging before—a refill sherry hogshead that imparts a gentle sherry note to the whiskey without overpowering it. In 2025, it was selected by Stuart Urquhart for Gordon & MacPhail's "Spirit of Scotland" series and bottled at a natural cask strength of 60.7% vol. Neither cold filtration nor color additives were used, so the color in the glass comes exclusively from the aging process.

In 2018, this spirit with a distinctive character was crafted at the Annandale Distillery in the heart of the Scottish Lowlands. It was aged for eight years in a carefully selected refill bourbon barrel, numbered 163, which allowed the distillate room to develop without overpowering its delicate distillery character. Bottled in 2026 by the renowned experts at Gordon & MacPhail for the exclusive “Spirit of Scotland” series, this single cask represents the pure, unadulterated essence of a special moment.

Founded in 1798, the Highland Park distillery in Kirkwall on the Orkney Islands is the northernmost distillery in Scotland. Due to its special location, especially the peat in Orkney, which differs significantly from the Islay peat, the whisky has a special taste. One of its basic flavours is the much-cited “heather sweetness”. The water comes from a lower spring, Cattie Maggie’s Quarry.

Exclusively for the Remarkable Society, the Hanseatische Weinhandelsgesellschaft presents a "Tour Edition": a Loch Lomond single cask whisky, matured for eight years exclusively in a second-fill Manzanilla sherry butt. Manzanilla is a dry style of sherry distinguished by its floral notes and bouquet. Full-cask maturation imparts fruity wine aromas and notes of dried plums, dates, and salted caramel to the whisky. This single cask expression was distilled exclusively in the innovative distillery's swan-neck pot stills.

Savanna Art of Rum by Xandro 2025 – 57%

On the shores of the Indian Ocean, at the foot of the Piton de la Fournaise volcano, the Savanna distillery is at home. Rum has been produced by hand here in the French overseas department and sugar cane paradise of La Réunion since the 19th century. However, the distillery and its exquisite bottlings as we know them today go back to Émile Hugot. Internationally known as “Monsieur Sucre”, he led Savanna into the future from the 1950s onwards with extensive expertise in the field of sugar.

At the heart of Savanna is high quality Rhum Agricole, Rhum traditionnel and Grand Arôme Rum, which the distillery is one of the few in the world to produce. The full-bodied molasses rum ferments extensively and develops a high ester content, similar to typical Jamaican rums. Unusually for distilleries in the French overseas departments, Savanna processes both fresh sugar cane juice and molasses in column and pot still – and only between July and November.

Free of any additives and not chill-filtered, Savanna rums reveal multi-faceted, authentic flavours that bear witness to the wild beauty of the island.

Nine Leaves 2018 – Armagnac Cask – 59%

From 2013 to 2023, Yoshiharu Takeuchi realised a vision: to produce exceptional rum using artisanal techniques traditionally reserved for single malt whisky. At his Nine Leaves distillery in Otsu, Japan, he personally oversaw every aspect of production, from the fermentation of Kokuto whole cane sugar to the labelling – ensuring that Nine Leaves Rum reflects this dedication in every drop.

Following the closure of the distillery, La Maison & Velier acquired the entire stock. Decorated in the style of the Japanese card game Unsun Karuta, limited-edition bottlings are now bringing Nine Leaves back to life.

The Bunnahabhain distillery is located at the kyle of Islay at the edge of the island in the northeast and lays that isolated, that there had to be constructed a long and curvy street down to the sea as it was built in 1881.The water that is used has its origin in an underground spring from the river Margadale and therefore it comes from Islay it has a relatively low concentration of peat. Until 2003 it was owned by an descendant of the founder, Highland Distillers. Nowadays it is owned by Burn Stewart Distillers.

GlenWyvis 2018 Berry Bro´s Collective #1 – 40%

More than 3,600 supporters made the GlenWyvis Distillery project possible. Founded in 2015 in the Scottish Highlands near Inverness, the whisky distillery is entirely community-owned. A record-breaking crowdfunding campaign funded the £3.8 million project, reviving the distilling tradition of Dingwall after 90 years.
Nestled between the foothills of Ben Wyvis, GlenWyvis brings together renewable energy (the distillery is completely independent of the electricity grid) with local barley, long fermentation and traditional copper stills. The result is a robust single malt, fragrant and fruity. The small distillery released its first whisky at the end of 2021.

Sweden only moved onto the whisky map after Mackmyra was founded in the late 1990s. With Smögen Whisky, the young whisky nation has another landmark. The distillery is named after a Swedish picture-perfect fishing village in the Skagerrak. However, it owes its popularity among connoisseurs in and outside Sweden to its intensely smoky small batch single malts, which are now also available in Germany.

The whiskys are handcrafted down to the last drop. The hands belong to the founder, lawyer, whisky enthusiast and author Pär Caldenby, who was able to separate the tailings from the heart of a distillate at Smögen Whisky for the first time in August 2010. He built his craft distillery from scratch in the outbuildings of a former farm. These house, among other things, two small copper pot stills (one only holds 900 liters), bourbon and sherry casks as well as a “worm tub condenser” – a cooling system that has become rare, which makes the raw spirit heavier and fuller.

In general, the following applies to Smögens single malts: They are powerful, distinctive drops with a clear smoky note, maritime echoes and malty sweetness. For Heavily Peated Swedish Single Malts in the same peat weight class as Caol Ila or Ballechin, Caldenby imports peat malt from Scotland.

Torabhaig 2018 Thompson Bros – 57,1%

After 190 years, Torabhaig is the first distillery on the Isle of Skye to produce a new single malt after the Talisker Distillery. It was built by the independent bottler Mossburn Distillers from the ruins of an old farmhouse. For this purpose, stones from the nearby Camus castle ruins were also used. The first spirit in the distillery flowed in 2017 and the first single malt was brought onto the market in 2021.
