]]> The distillery Ardmore is located south of Huntley in Kennethmont next to the railway that connects Aberdeen and Inverness. Sometimes it is stated that it lays in the Speyside and other times in the eastern Highlands. It was built in 1890 by the company Wm Teacher and Sons. Since 1978 Ardmore owns eight stills. Compared to other distilleries the history of this one was without any troubles. It was property of the founders for a long time, since 2005 it belongs to Jim Beam.

]]> The Islay distillery Bruichladdich, whose name means “beach,” was built in 1881 by the Harley brothers. After a period of closure, it was announced on December 20, 2000, that it would soon be back in operation. The first new make spirit flowed from the stills in May 2001. Bruichladdich’s success is closely linked to the work of one of the most important figures in the Scottish whisky scene – Jim McEwan. In 2012, the distillery changed hands again for £58 million. The current owner is Rémy Cointreau.

]]> The distillery Benromach is located at the northern edge of Forrest in the Highlands. It was built during the wisky boom in 1898 and closed immediateley after being finished. During its history it often changed its name and was closed an re-opend several times. 1993 Gordon & McPhail bought the company and reopened it in the presence of Prince Charles exactly 100 years after its founding.

]]> The distillery is located a few miles west of Pitlochry at Moulin and belongs to the whisky region of the Highlands. It was probably founded in 1825 and is the only Scottish distillery that is still completely preserved in the style of farmhouse operations. At the same time, it was the smallest distillery in Scotland for a long time. The two stills produced just 15 barrels a week. Today’s production capacity is around 500,000 litres of pure alcohol per year, after an expansion of the distillery went into operation in February 2018.

]]> In 1824 Alexander Reid got the licence to make whisky as one of the first persons. He founded a distillery located next to the River Spey in Easter Elchies near Craigellachie. Nowadays the distillery has 21 stills. Since the ‘Fine Oak’ series was released, the distillery doesn’t use any oloroso casks anymore. Macallan belongs to the Edrington Group.

]]> The distillery was founded in 1789 and with its location in Krikwall on the Orkney Islands it is the distillery that is the northernmost in Scotland. Because of this special location and the special peat on Orkney the whisky has a peculiar taste. One aroma that is described very often to be found is the ‘sweetness of heather’.
