]]> The distillery of the same name is located at the foot of Scotland’s highest mountain, Ben Nevis, in the western Highlands near Fort William. It was built in 1825 by John McDonald, a descendant of the Lord of the Isles. Production was halted between 1984 and 1990 but resumed a year after the distillery was acquired by Nikka in 1989. The water for Ben Nevis comes from the Allt a’ Mhuilinn burn.

]]> Founded in 1798, the distillery has borne both the name Tobermory and Ledaig in its chequered history with many closures. It is located in the town of Tobermory on the island of Mull and thus belongs to the Highlands category. Today, two single malts are produced at the distillery using water from Loch Mishnish: the unpeated Tobermory and the peated Ledaig.

The Glasgow 1770 – 2017/2026 pays tribute to Kirsch Import with a rich, fruit-forward profile featuring crisp apples, orange zest and sweet honeysuckle, as well as walnut and espresso. To achieve this, the single malt – which is considered mature for the distillery – was granted a second maturation period of over six years in a sherry cask previously filled with Palo Cortado.

]]> Already in 1770 there was a distillery at the current location of the Glasgow distillery, called Dundashill, which was then one of the first licensed whisky distilleries. In 2014, Liam Hughes, Mike Hayward and Ian McDougall decided to revive this piece of history and founded the Glasgow Destillery. It is now one of the few urban distilleries in Scotland dedicated to whisky production. With their now four pot stills, they currently produce around 440,000 liters of alcohol a year.

]]> The Westland distillery is located in Seattle, Washington USA. They have consciously decided against the production of bourbon, but for the category of American Single Malt Whiskey. Thus, they founded and lead the ASMW Commission, to which 110 distilleries now belong.
Since its founding in January 2010, the distillery has placed the highest value on quality. Every single malt is made from 100% malted barley. The distillate is only distilled up to 80% vol. Only casks with a maximum capacity of 700 litres are used for maturation.

On the flight path are distilleries from all regions of Scotland that come up with handpicked single malts or single grains. Some of them smoky and stormy like a star collision. Others serene and balanced like the dark side of the moon. All named after celestial phenomena.

Spectrums of colour, glistening light or dense darkness: discovering the Scotch Universe can feel like looking through a telescope into unexplored worlds. And just like these, the brand's whiskies do not reveal all their secrets. The fact is: all of them come from carefully selected casks bottled separately in Scotland, are neither chill-filtered nor coloured and have a high, cask strength alcohol content. The sixth bottling of the Cask Exploration series matured in Pomerol casks for the first time. Pomerol, an AOC area northeast of Bordeaux, is home to some of the finest and most sought-after red wines in the world, characterized by their deep color and ripe plum aromas. Pomerol wine is proud of its place of origin and takes advantage of the region's terroir. The appellation, with its warm climate, is characterized by the famous blue clay, gravel and sand that give flavor to the vines. The connection to the hometown is shared by the wine and whiskey of the Bruichladdich distillery, which was conceived, distilled, matured and bottled exclusively on Islay. In the Port Charlotte PMC:01, this composition finds expression in the fruity oak of the Pomerol barrels and the salty maritime note. Despite fundamentally different regions, a balance of oak, fruit and gentle peat smoke succeeds.

Official Tasting Note:

The one with 54.5% vol. Bottled and Peated to 40ppm Port Charlotte OMC:01 2013 was first aged in Bourbon casks for four years before being transferred to Pomerol casks for the final five years of its aging.

Aroma: Warm peat smoke and red fruits, pear, melon and a subtle maritime nuance. Delicate rose and geranium notes. Vanilla, honey, leather and toasted oak. Over time, the PMC:01 smells of cloves and ginger with a wonderful hint of marzipan.

Flavour: Malt sugar and peat smoke. Great viscosity that fills the entire mouth. The Pomerol cask brings out aromas reminiscent of blackberries, plums and aged leather - the perfect balance between wood and fruit.

Finish: Soft, maritime notes, mussels, some citrus zest and that typically elegant, demanding peat smoke that you can only find in a Port Charlotte.

]]> The distillery Port Charlotte was founded in 1829 by Colin Campbell. After having many different owners it was shut down in 1929. The warehouses still exist and are also used. The distillery used to have the name Lochindaal or Loch Indaal as well. There are produced and bottled whiskys in Bruichladdich unwder the name ‘Port Charlotte’. The announced reopening by Bruichladdich has not been realized until today.

Cuvée – that's French and comes from the world of winemaking. Derived from the word "cuve" for cask or tank, it describes the blending of different wines, which are bottled under one label. Winemakers thus combine the characteristics and aromas of specific wine-growing regions or grape varieties into a delicious balance. This process requires great finesse in both wine and whisky production. A job for Billy Walker.

Billy Walker has already demonstrated his blending skills, acquired over 50 years of experience, several times in the form of whisky cuvées for Kirsch customers. Now, the living legend has selected and combined barrels and barrique casks to create The GlenAllachie Cuvée Cask Finish 2012/2023.

The single malt initially matured in bourbon barrels. For the finishing process, Billy Walker used various wine casks, namely Pedro Ximenez puncheons, Moscatel barriques, and Ruby Port pipes.

]]> The distillery: back in Scottish private ownership since 2017
Founded in 1967, The GlenAllachie Distillery has long been foreign owned. In 2017, The GlenAllachie Distillers Company bought the distillery in Speyside – together with the filled casks in the warehouse. Its new owners: longtime Scotch whiskey luminary Billy Walker and his partners Trisha Savage and Graham Stevenson. The new team was introduced to their special features by long-standing employees of the distillery. Below: The distillery has four stills and two separate spirit safes – and can therefore produce two different distillates in parallel, for example smoky and non-smoky New Make.
The GlenAllachie Distillery has so far produced almost exclusively blended whiskeys. Single malt, on the other hand, was extremely rarely available, for example through independent bottlers. This changed in 2017 with the takeover by Billy Walker’s team. Age information for its single malts is important to The GlenAllachie: The core range consists of a 10, 12, 18 and 25 year old whisky. In addition, regular single cask and special bottlings are planned – and from 2018 even a smoky whiskey.

]]> Blair Athol is located at the southern edge of Pitlorchy and belongs to the lowlands. It was rebuilt in 1949 at the same spot where already 1798 a distillery had its place. Its Single Malt is the heart of the blend ‘Bells’.

]]> The distillery was opened by Anthony Wills in 2005. It was the first new-opening of a distillery on Islay after a pause of 125 years. It is located in the northwestern part of the island on a former farmer area and is the only distillery on Islay that isn’t located next to the sea. It also is the only distillery on Islay which may call itself ‘100% Islay’, using all the ingredients and doing every producing step on the island.
