The resulting must is distilled and cut before storage with sweet wines d'Alexandria and Pedro Ximénez. These wines give it its sweet character. Carlos I is matured for at least 10 years using the Solera process. The barrels were previously coated with Amontillado Sherry, which gives the brandy additional color and warm and multi-layered aromas.

The single cask was produced by Monique Destribats in 1985 in the picturesque village of Labastide d'Armagnac, which stands on sandy soils. Consisting of half Baco and half Colombard grapes, this rarity was continuously distilled to 60% and bottled in January 2025 at a still cask strength of 40% vol.

Its beautiful amber colour with mahogany and gold nuances leads to remarkably fine aromas. Candied orange peel, nougat and gingerbread meet acacia honey, liquorice, vanilla and fresh tobacco. The palate impresses with great balance, a velvety mouthfeel and a freshness that defies the long ageing process.

Although this process no longer allows this ‘Brandy Français’ to be bottled as Armagnac, it does reveal the region's new potential.

Five-year-old Armagnac was refined in French red wine barrels for the Borderline Brandy Français - Pinot Noir Finish. They gave it unexpected flavours of cherry brandy, blackcurrants, toast and smoke.

]]> The Domaine de Baraillon is located a little off the road at the gates of Lannemaignan (on the border between Gers and Landes) in Bas-Armagnac.

The fresh eau de vie is usually filled into 5,000 liter vats before being filled into new, different older kegs. Every few years they aerate their Armagnacs to encourage oxidation and from time to time they mix all of the barrels of a single vintage to ensure an even color and flavor.
