]]> Port Charlotte 2014 Islay Barley – 50% https://www.whizita.de/en/product/port-charlotte-2014-islay-barley-50/ Mon, 26 Jun 2023 12:35:12 +0000 https://www.whizita.de/?post_type=product&p=150781 The Port Charlotte Islay Barley 2014 contains barley from eight different farms on the island of Islay. 84% first-fill bourbon casks, 8% second-fill virgin oak casks and 8% second-fill Bordeaux wine casks were used for maturation. This combination leads to notes of sweet fruit, toasted oak and citrus, as well as the typical lingering Port Charlotte smoke that pervades everything. The Islay Barley was bottled at 50% as usual.

]]> The distillery Port Charlotte was founded in 1829 by Colin Campbell. After having many different owners it was shut down in 1929. The warehouses still exist and are also used. The distillery used to have the name Lochindaal or Loch Indaal as well. There are produced and bottled whiskys in Bruichladdich unwder the name ‘Port Charlotte’. The announced reopening by Bruichladdich has not been realized until today.

The whiskey matured in a Bordeuax Red Wine Barrique and was bottled with 54.0%.

Tasting Notes:
Nose: Dark grapes, raisins and cherries. Then some lemongrass and honey in the background.
Palate: In the taste with clear nutty notes and some unburned tobacco. In addition, exotic fruits such as passion fruit and mango. Finishing off with a fine wood note.

]]> Blair Athol is located at the southern edge of Pitlorchy and belongs to the lowlands. It was rebuilt in 1949 at the same spot where already 1798 a distillery had its place. Its Single Malt is the heart of the blend ‘Bells’.
