{"id":2308,"count":15,"description":"<span style=\"font-size: 120%\"><strong>Arran<\/strong><\/span>\r\n\r\nThe Arran distillery is located on the north-western tip of the island of the same name, between the west coast of Scotland and the Kintyre peninsula, and is easily accessible by car and ferry from Glasgow. It went into operation in 1995, after a delay, because a pair of Golden Eagles were breeding on the very spot where the distillery was to be built. It was built by Harold Currie, who was realising a dream after many successful years in the whisky industry, where he made it to director of Chivas.\r\nArran has an extensive core range in its portfolio and also various bottlings with different wine finishes. As Arran's capacity was quickly exhausted, it was decided to build another distillery on the Isle of Arran. This distillery is the Lagg Distillery, which already existed on Arran more than 150 years ago. In 2020, the Arran distillery was renamed Lochranza to better distinguish it. In future, Arran (Lochranza) will concentrate on the production of unpeated whiskies, while the peated counterpart will come from the Lagg distillery located at the other end of the island.\r\nArran (Lochranza) itself has 2 wash stills and 2 spirit stills, each tending to be smaller, and thus produces just under 1,200,000 litres of alcohol a year. The spirit often brings exotic aromas and a lot of complexity.
