The Bunnahabhain Distillery is located on the Sound of Islay, in the northeastern corner of the island, directly across from the island of Jura\u2014so remote that when it was built in 1881, a long, winding road first had to be constructed down to the sea. The water used for whisky production\u2014which is relatively low in peat for Islay\u2014comes from an underground spring, the Margadale River.

This cask-strength bottling showcases Bunnahabhain exactly as it matures in the warehouse: unpeated, fruity, with gentle spice and the characteristic coastal freshness\u2014undiluted, without chill filtration, and without added color. For the 2026 release, Bunnahabhain\u2019s Master Blender Julieann Fernandez combines 50% first-fill Oloroso casks with 50% bourbon casks. The result is robust and cask-forward, yet wonderfully sweet, creamy, and approachable. <\/p>\n
The Oloroso casks contribute the classic Bunnahabhain richness: dried fruits, gentle spice, and chocolate. The Bourbon casks add notes of vanilla, honey, and toasted coconut, making the whiskey rounder and creamier. Aging in the warehouses right on Bunnahabhain Bay imparts a subtle hint of salt and sea air to the whole blend. The spiciness is present and perfectly integrated\u2014powerful, yet never overpowering. <\/p>\n
