The distillery was opened by Anthony Wills in 2005. It was the first new-opening of a distillery on Islay after a pause of 125 years. It is located in the northwestern part of the island on a former farmer area and is the only distillery on Islay that isn’t located next to the sea. The Islay distillery Kilchoman is offering an exciting new autumn release, a full cask maturation that is matured exclusively in Ruby Port casks, the youngest of which are six years old. The maturation in the port casks gives the malt, which is known for its maritime peat smoke and light citrus sweetness, an additional intense sweetness of red berries, cinnamon and figs.
