With Lochlea, the Scottish distillery landscape has recently grown to include an independent, family-run farm distillery. It is not only the former Laphroaig Distillery Manager and current Lochlea Production Director and Master Blender, John Campbell, who is responsible for the distinctive style of their single malt. As one of only four distilleries in Scotland, Lochlea uses only barley from its own cultivation and distils and matures its whisky on site. For the Lochlea Ploughing Edition (Second Crop), the small team is setting smoke signals for the second time. Unlike last year, the limited single malt from the “Seasonal Releases” series matured exclusively in ex-islay casks, which only hold 200 litres each.
