The island nation’s smallest whisky distillery is located on Lake Biwa, the largest lake in Japan. Founded in 2016, Nagahama is part of a new generation of Japanese distilleries – and a response to the increasing demand for domestic premium products. The team around master blender Takashi Kiyoi distills the malty raw whiskey spirit in just 26 square meters. The craft distillery’s aged stocks are still small. For their Amahagan World Blends, Nagahama combines their own spirit with selected malt whiskeys from around the world.
