The island nation’s smallest whisky distillery is located on Lake Biwa, the largest lake in Japan. Founded in 2016, Nagahama is part of a new generation of Japanese distilleries – and a response to the increasing demand for domestic premium products. The team around master blender Takashi Kiyoi distills the malty raw whiskey spirit in just 26 square meters. The equipment for this adapts to the space: Nagahama works with the smallest pot stills in Japan. The alambic stills provide extra fullness and depth.<\/p>\n
The craft distillery’s aged stocks are still small. For their Amahagan World Blends, Nagahama combines their own spirit with selected malt whiskeys from around the world. The Nagahama Single Malt \u2013 Second Batch is the second single malt release from the up-and-coming distillery.
