The Glenfiddich was the first one that had ever been bottled and offered a Single Malt (1963). The distillery that was built by William Grant and his family in 1886 still is still owned by the family. The water that is used still comes from the Robbie Dubh Quelle. The Glenfiddich Grand Cru is the first single malt in the Grand series from Glenfiddich. It matured for 23 years in American and European oak barrels that previously contained sherry. The whisky was finished in French Cuv\u00e9e barrels, which were used in the fermentation of wine that ultimately becomes Champagne.
