The distillery was founded in 1816 by George Montgomery. It is located on the island Islay in Port Charlotte. 1852 the distillery was taken over by Thomas Pattinson and got shut down in the same year. Although there were plans in 2008 to reopen the distillery by Bruichladdich, they were not realised. But since the same year Bruichladdich is bottling a heavy peated Single Malt called Octomore.<\/p>\n

That smooth, biscuit malt followed by peat smoke and lots of stone fruit (ripe apricots, peaches) and honey drizzled pears. Candied lemon and caramel, honeycomb, chocolate and vanilla ice cream.<\/p>\n Flavour<\/strong><\/p>\n Oak wood and smoldering peat.
