Founded in 1798, the Highland Park distillery in Kirkwall on the Orkney Islands is the northernmost distillery in Scotland. Due to its special location, especially the peat in Orkney, which differs significantly from the Islay peat, the whisky has a special taste. One of its basic flavours is the much-cited “heather sweetness”. The water comes from a lower spring, Cattie Maggie’s Quarry.

What may sound like a mismatched match on a dating app to some, actually creates a pleasantly festive mood in the glass for whisky lovers: seductive port notes with dark fruits and melt-in-the-mouth sweetness caress the gently spicy peat smoke & herbal character of the 15-year-old Highland Malt. The 7-month finish in a First Fill Ruby Port Barrique transformed the Bourbon Cask-matured Highland Malt from the legendary distillery on the Orkneys into a true ‘Festive Dram’ – a highly aromatic Christmas greeting from the storm-tossed islands in the rough North Atlantic. It’s time to sit back, relax and enjoy the cosy warmth of the Orcadian malt …
Nose: fine smoky note, surrounded by fruity port aromas, tobacco, herbs.
Mouth: Spicy & dark fruity, with subtle sweetness, cherries wrapped in dark chocolate, herbs and leather and tobacco flavours, all of which permeate the ever-present fine wood smoke
Finish: Quite long and with lots of oak spice, some cocoa and a final hint of campfire.
