From 1945 to 1984, Robert Maderholz produced briar pipes. His son Michael Maderholz designed the first automatic machines for filter production in 1984. To this day, White Elephant is the only brand in the world that fills filters with highly absorbent meerschaum granulate (a magnesium silicate from the sepiolite mineral group), whose porous structure enables the material to absorb large amounts of moisture like a sponge. Since the sea foam was imported from Tanzania at the time (it now comes from Eskisehir in Turkey), a name was quickly found – ‘White Elephant’.
After 35 years, the White Elephant brand now presents itself for the first time in a completely revised design. Despite the new face, everything else remains the same: Production is still carried out in Ettenstatt, Bavaria. The top priority is top quality at fair prices. And now also packaged in an environmentally friendly way.
