Whisky-Rarities

There are many factors that can make a whiskey a "rarity".

These are often older distillery original bottlings from renowned distilleries, preferably in original cask strength and not filtered or colored, which were bottled many years ago. Since whisky does not mature further in the bottle, but does not lose its quality and taste when stored properly (standing upright, as dark as possible in the packaging, constant temperature), it can be stored practically indefinitely. Whisky is therefore very suitable as a collection object and possibly as an investment with growth potential and low risk of loss.

In the “worst case” you can still drink your collection items. In the past few years in particular, some whiskeys have seen enormous increases in value among collectors. If you are interested in a "value investment in whiskeys" we would be happy to advise you on this subject without obligation.

In addition to the original bottlings from the distilleries, there are other rarities from independent bottlers, in particular the so-called single-barrel bottlings, i.e. the content of a single barrel, with the basic aromas of the respective distillery, but also with the individual taste nuances of the respective barrel. The end of the availability of a whiskey is preprogrammed, especially for the individual casks.

Since a whisky barrel can only hold a certain amount of whiskey, depending on its size, and the amount of whiskey decreases as it matures in the barrel due to evaporation ("Angels Share"), it is not uncommon for single cask bottlings that there are only a few hundred bottles, and even fewer for very old whiskeys.

Furthermore, we consider some of the whiskys, that are still very young, from the distilleries that started producing in recent years for a collection. Even if these young whiskys do not yet reach the depth and aroma of older whiskys, it can be very exciting to compare them in a few years with a 10 or 12 year old whiskey from the same distillery.

If you have decided to set up a whiskey collection, we recommend a regular check of the "treasures", as even with closed bottles a level loss can occur over the years. In addition, great care should be taken when opening older bottles
to not damage the cork.

You can find some of these rare, limited or hard to get whiskeys and those that came into the bottle a long time ago in our "Rarities" section.
