“In today’s Lower Franconia, in the idyllic village of Rüdenau with its 700 inhabitants, Master Distiller David F. Hynes from Dublin and Andreas Thümmler, the founder and owner of today’s St. Kilian Distillery, who was born and grew up here, met. David comes from a long whisky tradition and is one of the most successful Master Distillers in Ireland. He was joined by Mario Rudolf from Amorbach, not far from Rüdenau. As a successful master brewer who, like Andreas Thümmler, is dedicated to collecting and enjoying whisky, he learned the fine art of whisky distillation from David over the next few years. Under David’s direction and leadership, it was decided to build the largest and most unique whisky distillery in Germany and to give it the name St. Kilian Distillers in memory of St. Kilian from Ireland.
After more than four years of planning and construction work and considerable investment, the first spirit was run through the pot stills of St. Kilian at the beginning of 2016. Under the guidance of David and with the help of Mario, who as a brewer was already an expert in first-class material preparation, a unique facility was created with original equipment from Scotland and Ireland. In the old tradition, the Irish-Scottish process is used for whisky production. St. Kilian aims at first-class premium products, which many collectors and whisky connoisseurs in Germany and all over the world shall later enjoy.”
