The peat monster. To celebrate its 20th anniversary, the peaty powerhouse is available in cask strength for a short time. The Peat Monster Cask Strength combines celebrated malt whiskies from the Caol Ila and Williamson distilleries on the south coast of Islay. Compass Box also underlines its special connection to the USA with a partial finish in specially made Virgin American Oak casks from Missouri, which were briefly inoculated with grain brandy. Result: strong vanilla and cinnamon notes with sooty barbecue smoke, seaweed, salt and citrus notes. For over 20 years, Compass Box has been doing away with the image of the blend category. The "whisky makers" rely on perfectionism and a level of transparency for which they have even taken on the Scotch Whisky Association. The result? Blends of the highest class. For drinks of the highest class, however, Le Lion - Bar de Paris in Hamburg's Rathausstrasse, run by bar icon Jörg Meyer, is the right place to go. Both creators of pleasure are now joining forces for a special edition limited to 1,710 bottles. Compass Box Chez Lion was personally put together in London by Jörg Meyer. The blended Scotch whisky is made for mixing. For this purpose, "Head Whiskymaker" James Saxon has endowed it with elegance as well as sufficient intensity - for expressiveness in the cocktail. Chez Lion was composed of ingredients from Linkwood, Cameronbridge and the popular The Spice Tree from Compass Box, which matured in a selection of sherry, bourbon and moscatel casks. Lush notes of nuts and fruits blend with creamy cocoa and oak spice. Over the years, Compass Box has experimented with the maturation of peated whiskies in sherry and wine casks. With Secrets of Smoke, the whisky makers have succeeded in using these casks to break through the smoky shell and release the surprising sweetness at the heart of peated whiskies. Casks flavoured with Palo Cortado sherry underline the toffee-apple characteristics of Caol Ila's malt whisky. Refill red wine barrels lure bright cherry notes from the depths of The Peat Monster, Compass Box's own blend of Islay malts. And Marsala casks bring the flavours of oat bars with blueberries to the surface of Laphroaig whisky.
