Already in the 15th century there were cattlemen who settled down at the place in the Highlands in Tomatin, were the distillery is standing nowadays. It was legalized in 1897. Today the A9 connecting Perth and Inverness is near the distillery, which belongs to the biggest ones in Scotland. Most part of the produced whisky is used for making Blends.

Only a few independent bottlers carry Tomatin – Michel Reick, thanks to long-standing connections in Scotland, does. His Tomatin 2007/2025 is rare for another reason: the leaking PX sherry butt yielded only 360 bottles instead of the expected 730, which were nevertheless bottled at cask strength.
The aroma of the Tomatin is opulent and dense. It is characterized by dark raisins, dates, and fig jam, paired with plum compote and chocolate truffle. Notes of espresso, hazelnut nougat, and light leather develop in the background. With aeration, orange peel, cinnamon, and a hint of balsamic-like acidity emerge, adding further tension to the bouquet.
