Nikka Frontier embodies that moment of setting out, just as Nikka’s founder, Masataka Taketsuru, must have experienced it before his trip to Scotland in 1918 – alone, without any knowledge of the language, but determined to master the art of whisky-making. The new Standard is dedicated to his spirit of discovery: an aromatic and affordable blended whisky that opens the door to the ‘Nikkaverse’.

How? With peated single malt from Nikka’s first distillery, Yoichi, at its heart, 51 per cent malt content and non-chill-filtered at 48% ABV. Whether neat, ‘on the rocks’ or in a highball: It tastes smoky, velvety, fruity, powerful – and reflects the confidence born of over 90 years of pioneering work on Japan’s whisky front.

Tasting Notes:

Nose: Cask-matured aroma, fruity notes of jam, full-bodied malt and a pleasant smoky character.

Palate: Soft, full-bodied mouthfeel, with the sweetness of ripe fruit harmoniously balancing the tart peaty note.

Finish: Lingering, gentle and sweet oak note.

The founder of the Nikka Distillery, Masataka Teketsuru was born into a family, that was successfully producing Sake (rice wine) since 1733. His first employer sent him to Scotland to learn about the technique and distillation processes in the Whisky production.
Some years later he came back to Osaka and build Japans first Whisky Distillery – which made him the pioneer of the Japanese Whisky production. In 1934 he decided to go his own way and search for the right location for the perfect Japanese Whisky.
