In 1824 Alexander Reid got the licence to make whisky as one of the first persons. He founded a distillery located next to the River Spey in Easter Elchies near Craigellachie. Nowadays the distillery has 21 stills. Since the ‘Fine Oak’ series was released, the distillery doesn’t use any oloroso casks anymore. Macallan belongs to the Edrington Group.
