The distillery: back in Scottish private ownership since 2017
Founded in 1967, The GlenAllachie Distillery has long been foreign owned. In 2017, The GlenAllachie Distillers Company bought the distillery in Speyside – together with the filled casks in the warehouse. Its new owners: longtime Scotch whiskey luminary Billy Walker and his partners Trisha Savage and Graham Stevenson. The new team was introduced to their special features by long-standing employees of the distillery. Below: The distillery has four stills and two separate spirit safes – and can therefore produce two different distillates in parallel, for example smoky and non-smoky New Make.
The GlenAllachie Distillery has so far produced almost exclusively blended whiskeys. Single malt, on the other hand, was extremely rarely available, for example through independent bottlers. This changed in 2017 with the takeover by Billy Walker’s team. Age information for its single malts is important to The GlenAllachie: The core range consists of a 10, 12, 18 and 25 year old whisky. In addition, regular single cask and special bottlings are planned – and from 2018 even a smoky whiskey.

‘Two different casks – a harmonious synthesis’ is the motto of a new limited edition series from the hand of industry icon Billy Walker. With Sinteis (pronounced ‘sin-teesh’, Scottish Gaelic for ‘synthesis’), the cask innovator epitomises his creativity in combining the daring with the popular.
For Sinteis Part I, The GlenAllachie 2014/2025 – Chinquapin & PX Casks, Walker selected both virgin oak barrels and first fill sherry puncheons from a stock of 50,000 casks. The rare casks made from Chinquapin, an American oak native to the Ozarks of Missouri, typically give off notes of sweet spices and aniseed. The Pedro Ximénez sherry casks, on the other hand, add flavours of dark chocolate and ripe fruit. Both characteristics unfold uninhibited – at a cask strength of 57.8% vol. and without colouring or chill filtration.
The packaging was designed by Scottish designer Kayley Barbour to catch the eye. The carton is adorned with a hand-drawn, foiled symbol that symbolises the fusion of wood species.
