Fans know the Harz single malt The Journey as an annually re-released edition. Following the twelve-year-old The Journey, Hercynian Distilling Co. is once again adding a standard with an age statement to its flagship: The Journey 6 y.o.

For the new stage, the whisky distilled from barley and woodsmoked malt matured exclusively in first fill casks, which were pre-aged with sherry, port, Marsala and Málaga. Instead of the usual 43% vol. for the vintage editions, Batch 1 was bottled at the ideal drinking strength of 46% vol. The effect: a real treat from the highest mountains in northern Germany – lusciously fruity, malty and with spicy oak.

In the Elsbachtal valley, nestled in the mountainous landscape of the southern Harz, lies the Hammerschmiede. Instead of iron ore, the Buchholz family processes a different regional raw material here: barley. Since 2002, the spirits manufactory has stood for Hercynian Single Malt. Now the sophisticated whisky from the heart of Germany has received a special honour: the award as “Category Winner” at this year’s World Whiskies Awards.
