Ah, a bipolar beaver? An alienated duck, perhaps? Or rather an otter gone astray? No, this living fossil is a bit of everything and therefore completely unique: a platypus! The embodiment of a biological curiosity belongs to the class of mammals, but still lays eggs. Okay … The little animal with paddle feet, fur and beak follows this stubborn practice exclusively in the east and south-east of Australia.

Exciting, rare, complex and unforgettable – these are characteristics that the independent bottler FRC is also very familiar with. After the Quokka Edition, a liquid homage to the lively marsupial, FRC is now dedicating its own rum to the next Australian animal species, the platypus.

For the Platypus Edition 7 y.o., the North Germans have once again worked with Australia’s oldest registered distillery. Beenleigh Artisan Distillers distilled the small-batch rum from molasses in both column and pot stills and aged it for five years under the Australian sun in bourbon casks. For the complex crowning glory, the limited edition experience was refined for two years in Oloroso and Pedro Ximénez sherry casks on the European continent.
