The distillery is a few miles west of Pitlochry at Moulin and is part of the Highland whiskey region. Believed to have been founded in 1825, it is the only Scottish distillery that still retains its farmhouse style. It was also the smallest distillery in Scotland for a long time. The two stills produced just 15 casks per week. Today’s production capacity is around 500,000 liters of pure alcohol per year after an expansion of the distillery was put into operation in February 2018. Since the original Ballechin distillery no longer exists, the peated version of the Edradour is offered under this name.

Ballechin embodies the smoky soul of Edradour, one of Scotland’s smallest traditional distilleries. With a phenol content of at least 50 ppm, this spirit was distilled in February 2006 and matured for a full 20 years in a rare first-fill Moscato Passito hogshead. The choice by the renowned bottler Signatory Vintage of cask number 801 is a stroke of curatorial luck: the wood of a noble sweet dessert wine meets the powerful texture of a Highland malt. The bottling took place in March 2026 at natural cask strength of 53.8% vol., naturally without chill filtration and in its natural colour.
