With the "Seasonal Releases", Lochlea reflects what happens on the farm with the changing of the seasons. The Ploughing Edition is the first peaty Lochlea bottling - and the first smoky whisky for John Campbell after Laphroaig. The single malt was matured in a combination of ex-islay casks and peaty quarter casks. The result: a perfect dram for the cold season with flavours of sweets, baked fruits, nuts and lingering Islay peat. The inspiration for the latest bottling in the annual series was the long winters on the farm where Scotland's national poet Robert Burns lived from 1777 to 1784. It is the season for ploughing the fields that Burns once farmed in preparation for spring sowing. With its ice-blue label, Lochlea also reflects the frosty winters on the west coast of Ayrshire. Tasting Notes: Nose: Baked fruit with light peat smoke in the background. Palate: Sweets, cooked apple and Brazil nuts. Finish: Lingering fruit and nuttiness, infused with a hint of Islay peat smoke.

Now the permanent core release from the farm distillers is here. Lochlea Our Barley is the result of the cask recipe perfected by John Campbell and a blind tasting with the distillery team. The single malt Scotch whisky from the Lowlands is matured in a sophisticated combination of first fill bourbon barrels, Oloroso sherry butts and STR barriques, i.e. "scraped" or "shaved", "toasted" and "recharred" wine casks. At an ideal drinking strength of 46% vol., the whisky leads from pear syrup and fruit sweets on the nose to fresh fruit and cereal notes on the palate to macadamia nuts and orange beeswax.

The Lochlea Harvest Edition (First Crop) is the new whisky of the "Seasonal Releases". The series comprises limited seasonal bottlings. Each of them shows Lochlea Single Malt in a different light. And: what happens on the farm as the seasons change. The Harvest Edition is inspired by the harvest season. Late summer sunsets and the post-harvest deep red soil of Ayrshire are captured on the label. In the bottle, the whisky captures the onset of the transitional season with notes like stewed apples, oat biscuits and toasted marshmallows. For this, the single malt was matured in port hogsheads, oloroso sherry butts and first fill bourbon barrels.

The popular Lochlea Fallow Edition (Third Crop) from sherry casks is dedicated to the end of the season - and fittingly also marks the end of the series. Lochlea selected only first fill Oloroso sherry butts for the final bottling. Rich and matured for an extra year, the Lowland single malt offers a fruity and spicy experience with notes of baked apple, date, honey, nutty malt bread and pepper.

Lochlea's seasonal small batch releases showcase the distinctive style of the independent, family-run farm distillery in four different ways. As a working farm, Lochlea adapts the bottlings to the exact processes that are in vogue on the farm in leafy Ayrshire at the time of year. The Third Crops are the latest releases in the series. The Lochlea Harvest Edition (Third Crop) is inspired by the busy harvest season, when the barley for the following year's whisky is brought in during summer sunsets. The single malt has been matured twice: in refill bourbon barrels and port hogsheads as well as an Oloroso sherry butt. A further year older, it offers a new take on the sweet and summery flavour profile of harvest whiskies. Gourmets can look forward to luscious dessert notes balanced by spicy black pepper.
