The distillery, whose name means “strong city”, is located on the south bank of the River Teith not far from the town of Doune. It is still part of the Highlands region. In 1784 a cotton mill was first built, which was only converted into a distillery with 4 stills in 1965/66. Deanston has also been available as a single malt since 1990 and is owned by a South American investment company.

At the same time as the Tomatin, we and our friends from the whisky store in Oberhausen bottled another top whiskey in spring, which is in no way inferior to the Tomatin in terms of quality. It's a Deanston 2007 from a First Fill Oloroso Sherry Butt. The whisky was of course bottled at cask strength.
In terms of taste, this whisky features an enormous range of fruity aromas paired with a nice herbal note. The exact tasting notes will follow shortly. A total of 564 bottles are available at both stores.

The 12 years old Deanston is pure and elegant, without having any smokey flavours. It matured in a former Bourbon cask.
There is only used biological wheat, which made the distillery get the certificate of the Organic Food Federation.

This 12 year old Deanston was bottled in November 2024 for the Best Dram series. The whisky matured in a 1st Fill Ruby Port Barrique and has a cask strength of 57.7%. In total, the cask with the number 59 has produced 276 bottles.
Distilled exclusively from Scottish barley and matured in Ruby Port barriques, Deanston 2012/2024 combines deep, complex notes of old port with fine dark chocolate.
