The Craigellachie distillery is in the Speyside. Once founded by Peter Mackie and others, the distillery, which was built in 1891, is now owned by the Bacardi Martini Group. During the renovation in 1964, the distillery was expanded to 4 stills. The water no longer comes from the Hill of Little Conval, but from the Blue Hill. During production, the steam is cooled down by so-called “worm tubs” – spiral copper tubes. This process means that the new make has little contact with copper during production, which creates a strong taste.
