Annandale
Die Annandale-Brennerei blickt auf eine ereignisreiche Geschichte zurück. Ursprünglich 1830 von George Donald gegründet, wechselte sie mehrfach den Besitzer und wurde schlussendlich 1924 von Johnnie Walker stillgelegt. Dank David Thomson und Teresa Church, die die Überreste der Brennerei 2007 erwarben und aufwendig modernisierten, dürfen wir die Brennerei heute wieder zum ohnehin überschaubaren Lowland Portfolio zählen. Am 15. November 2014 wurde das erste Fass eingelagert und im Juni 2018 nach über 94 Jahren erstmalig wieder abgefüllt.
Mit ihrer Washstill und zwei Spiritstills ist sie in der Lage, zwei verschiedene Stile zu produzieren (= getorft und ungetorft) und kommt so auf ein Produktionsvolumen von knapp 250.000 Liter Alkohol im Jahr.
Unter Aufsicht des Master Distillers Malcolm Rennie, ehemals bei Kilchoman, gibt es inzwischen verschiedene Originalabfüllungen. Auch erfreuen sich diverse unabhängig abgefüllte Annandale(s) großer Beliebtheit.

Matured for 5 years in first fill Oloroso Sherry Butt, this single malt is still one of the older bottlings from the distillery that was revived in 2014.
Tasting Notes:
Nose: Fresh and grassy with subtle nutty aromas, subtle sweetness and dates. Red berries in the background and slightly chocolaty at the end.
Palate: Smooth attack with an oily, nutty sweetness. Brazil nut, ripe pears, cane sugar, and sweetened black tea are finally joined by spice and restrained oak notes.
Finish: Decreasing fruit and sweetness with spicy notes and some oak.

This 9-year-old Annandale matured in a 1st Fill STR Red Wine Barrique and was bottled by Best Dram. In total, cask number 566 yielded 224 bottles with an alcohol content of 56.3%.
