The production of mash for Grain Whisky is not subject to any legal requirements, which means that you can use the cheapest wheat for the production that is available. In contrast to that for the production of Malt Whisky you have to use pure barley malt, for Straight Bourbon at least 51% corn and for Straight Rye at least 51% rye.
The method of distillation is the second criteria for producing Grain Whisky. Grain is distilled continous in so called ‘patent stills’.
Grain Whisky is the basis nd main ingredient of Single Grain Whisky, outstanding good casks get bottled as Single Grain Whisky.

The Coopers Collection is distilled with 100% malted barley in Loch Lomond's bespoke, all-copper continuous Coffey stills. The result is a single grain with elegant fruit and floral aromas, which are enveloped by the warming spice of cloves and vanilla sweetness of the Spanish oak casks. Michael Henry selected some of the older first-fill American oak casks for this. In collaboration with the excellent cooper team, the single grain was then refined in the finest hand-crafted Spanish oak casks to create a unique and complex whisky.
