PRUNIER

Grape vines are rooted deep in the earth. The root anchors itself up to six meters deep in the ground. The Prunier house understands what it means to be so firmly rooted in your environment: while tradition is very important in Cognac, the independent family business is one of the oldest active Cognac houses. The family’s relationship to (brandy) wine can be traced back to 1701. Hectares of his own vines – Prunier never needed them for his success. The worldwide fame of the house is based on the centuries-old expertise of the family as a cask trader and independent bottler. In the eleventh and soon to be the twelfth generation, Stéphane Burnez and his daughter Alice continue the art of aging and blending carefully selected stocks. The latter mature in cellars at two locations – in Gimeux, in the 400 square meter vaulted cellar below the house, which was built in 1850 as a family residence, and in “Paradise”. In addition to the most valuable casks, the room at the headquarters houses old vintage cognacs and blends made from old cognac. At the peak of their maturation, they rest in carboys to preserve their exceptional quality. The cellars are not only the heart of the family business. According to legend, an underground river runs beneath them, which ensures high humidity in the resting rooms for French oak casks – and first-class products with a unique flavor profile. The single cask cognacs or blends reach connoisseurs in particular in the classic range or as vintage bottlings.
