Nc’nean is Annabel Thomas’ dream come true of a modern, sustainable whisky distillery in Scotland. The distillation on the coast of the Morvern peninsula has been running since 2017.
The whisky is made from organically grown Scottish barley in a distillery that is 100 percent renewable energy. It is bottled in the UK’s first fully recycled clear glass bottle. “Made by nature, not by rules” is the motto of one of the few women-run whisky distilleries in the world.

With the mission of doing something good for the planet and at the same time improving the image of the Scotch whisky industry, Nc’nean founder Annabel Thomas has come up with something very special: the barley used is grown in Scotland in a controlled organic way and processed into Nc’nean Organic Single Malt Scotch Whisky using 100% renewable energy. It is bottled in the UK’s first 100% recycled clear glass bottle.
Like the last release, the latest Nc’nean Batch BU06 is the result of a slightly different cask combination: slightly fewer STR wine casks (55%) and slightly more bourbon casks (43%) are now complemented by Oloroso Sherry Casks (2%). This gives the creamy, fruity flavours of the single malt from the coast of the Morvern Peninsula more richness and depth. With the recipe change, Nc’nean has also changed the batch naming to a coded system. The batches can be tracked as usual on the Nc’nean website.
Nc’nean is also taking another step towards environmental friendliness: the florally decorated bottles are available with and without gift packaging.
