Millstone 2017 Whisky Druid – 54,7%

Michel Reick remains in the memory. The likeable giant owes this not only to his stature, but first and foremost to his excellent knack for casks. As an independent bottler behind four established brands, he has literally become a permanent fixture in the whisky scene – also in the Kirsch Import team.

Our “very own” whisky druid lives up to his nickname and makes the magic of exclusive single casks tangible for connoisseurs. For example, in the speciality series launched in 2020, which is growing today with a new bottling.

For the dark whisky Druid Millstone 2017/2022, the Druid went to the Netherlands – to one of the last independent distilleries in our neighbouring country.

Zuidam Distillers is a family business founded in 1975 that is dedicated to traditional working methods. With four small pot stills today, a diverse portfolio is created. At its heart: the Millstone Whiskies.

The Zuidams distil fruity-complex whiskies from grain ground in mills, which ferments for an above-average seven days and matures in a wide range of quality casks.

The choice of the Druid fell on a First Fill Oloroso Sherry Cask, filled with single malt from peated malt. Over five years in the warm, dry climate of the Zuidam warehouse, this developed a fascinating profile with distinct peat smoke and sweet as well as nutty overtones.

Tasting Notes:

Nose: Dry sherry and nuttiness with a little old wood and sultanas against a background of dark chocolate. Faint, well-integrated smoke (more wood than peat). Slightly increasing sweetness, merging into brittle.

Palate: Dry, nutty notes and immediately clear peat smoke, complemented by chocolaty sweetness. Hints of sultanas and a little prune meld with sweet resinous spice and oily nuts.

Finish: Very long with dirty peat smoke, the subtle sweetness of dark honey and sultanas fading to a phenolic aftertaste.
