The 12-year-old Kurayoshi is mostly made in Japan, although a small part of the whiskey used also comes from Scotland.

The whiskey is allowed to mature in classic oak barrels before it is diluted to drinking strength with the mild spring water. In terms of taste, it has mild notes of vanilla, caramel and fruit, combined with roasted nuts and malt.

The Matsui Whisky Kurayoshi Distillery, based in the city of Kurayoshi on the shores of the Sea of Japan, in the Tottori Prefecture in the south of the Japanese main island of Honshu, has been active since it was founded in 1910. Their production quantities of pure malt whisky or blended malt whiskey from Scottish and in-house malt whiskys for the Kurayoshi brand are said to be low. A particular focus is on the water used, which rises at the foot of the nearby Mount Daisen.
