10 years in the sweet, dark fruity Pedro Ximénez Barrel endowed the Glencadam 2012/2023 with complex notes of red fruits, sweet popcorn and chocolate.

Tasting Notes:

Nose: A surprising amount of red fruit, joined by toffee, hints of sugared popcorn and raisins.

Palate: Dry with dark chocolate, ripe blackberries, preserved plums and chocolate toffee.

Finish: Medium length, with dark fruits and notes of chocolate.

Glencadam, which translates as “Valley of the Wild Goose”, was commissioned in Brechin in 1825. Most of the production is used for the Ballantines brand. After 180 years in the whisky waiting loop, Glencadam took the step out of the shadow of the blend industry onto the stage of the original bottlers. But rather quietly. Their “East Highlands” single malt made from unpeated barley malt is still considered an insider tip today.
