Dingle Samhain “Wheel of the year” – 50,5%

In the courtyard of Dingle pub Dick Mack’s, flames blaze as Druidess Juli Ni Mhaoileoin ushers in the Celtic New Year – and welcomes a whiskey novelty. For more than 2,000 years, the fire festival of Samhain has marked the first segment of the Celtic calendar. In total, the folk cycle of the year comprises eight festivals. From now on, the Dingle Distillery will be dedicating its own bottling to each of them. With the Samhain Single Malt, the independent distillery from Ireland’s southwest is launching its new “Wheel of the Year” series.

The limited bottling is a triple-distilled single malt Irish whiskey to which Master Distiller Graham Coull gave a finish in Muscatel Casks from Fernando de Castilla after five years in bourbon casks. Thus, despite a powerful 50.5 percent by volume, Dingles Samhain remains accessible and round. Whoever gets hold of one of the 10,000 bottles can look forward to light and dark fruit notes, a hint of raisins, almonds as well as sweet spices and pepper.
