Founded in 1812, the Royal Brackla Distillery became the first Scottish distillery to be granted a Royal Warrant by King William IV in 1833. For this edition in the "Benchmark" series, independent bottler Murray McDavid selected a Highland single malt distilled in 2011 that initially matured in classic sherry casks. It underwent a final finishing period in exclusive barriques from the renowned Bodegas Ximénez-Spínola. This dual maturation in high-quality European oak significantly shapes the character of the limited release—with only 928 bottles available.

On the nose, the honey-hued whisky reveals an inviting bouquet of milk chocolate, walnuts, and fresh cookie dough. On the palate, it makes a bold, full-bodied impression at a robust 57.2% ABV, where creamy malt meets the vibrant fruitiness of red apples and mixed berries. The finish is long-lasting, concluding elegantly with notes of dried cranberries, soft fudge, and a delicate hint of cinnamon pastry.

Our "Feel-Good Manager," Yuk, finally has his own bottling. When selecting the whisky, his keen nose picked out this exciting grain whisky from the North British Distillery. The whisky spent the final 9 months of its 15-year maturation period in a Moscatel Octave cask and was bottled at 55.6% ABV. A total of only 88 bottles of this release exist.

Orkney (HP) 2011 Signatory 100 Proof #83 – 57,1%

Die Edition 83 der 100 Proof Serie stammt aus einer unbekannten Orkney Brennerei. Der Whisky wurde 2011 destilliert und erhielt ein Finish in 1st Fill PX Sherry Butts.

The distillery bears the name of the city to the south of which it is located. It is part of the Speyside and since its construction in 1898, it has changed hands many times over the course of history, until finally it ended up in the hands of Diageo. In 1964, during renovations, it was expanded to 6 stills.

Whether sherry casks from Spanish bodegas, strong wine casks from Madeira, port pipes from Portugal, barrique casks from Europe’s top winemakers, casks from Caribbean rum distilleries or bourbon casks from the USA: Murray McDavid purchases casks directly from the producer. The wooden treasure has become the trademark of the renowned independent bottler. Founded in 1994 by Mark Reynier (today’s CEO of Waterford and Renegade), Simon Coughlin and Gordon Wright (Springbank Distillery), Murray McDavid quickly made a name for himself with post-aging in the exquisite casks. The team is also known for taking over and “rescuing” the Bruichladdich Distillery.

But Murray McDavid is at home in the closed Coleburn Distillery on Speyside. In the traditional Dunnage Warehouse, the bottlings mature here between low but thick walls and on clay soil. Single malt and grain whisky, vatted malts and blended whisky appear in different series. Their heart: Benchmark. Only first-class single malts find their way into the turquoise labeled bottles.

The “Campbeltown Saga” series represents the rich heritage of Campbeltown, the Victorian whisky capital. The year 1832, the founding year of Glen Scotia, was a time when whisky literally flowed through the streets of Campbeltown. During this period, 37 distilleries operated in the port city of Campbeltown, which, due to this golden era, is known as “Whiskyopolis,” supplying the entire world with Campbeltown whisky. Campbeltown whiskies are known for their robust, oily character and intense smoke, imparted by the local peat, which created a dense, peaty atmosphere in Campbeltown. That’s why we say Glen Scotia is whisky from the whiskiest place in the world.

For the series launch, Iain McAlister selects exclusively the rare medium-peated first-fill bourbon casks, from which peated spirit is produced for only one month of the year.

The medium-peated first-fill bourbon casks offer a rich, smoky Campbeltown malt with a pronounced maritime character. This rare peated whisky is a tribute to the golden era of whisky production in Campbeltown.

Linkwood 2011 James Eadie – 52,4%

The distillery Linkwood was founded in 1821 by Peter Brown and completely rebuilt by his Sohn William in 1871. It is located in the Speyside, south of Elgin next to the Lossie and surrounded by forest. The water that is used for producing the whisky comes from springs of the Loch Milbuis. Nowadays Linkwood is owned by Diageo.
