that you wouldn't think possible at first, but they still happen from time to time.
nevertheless happen from time to time. Because where people work, mistakes are
mistakes are made. This is the case with the new Living Souls Blended Scotch ‘Ninety-Nine
& One":
What happened? 18-year-old Ledaig single malt
was due to be bottled and several barrels were emptied into a
emptied into a vatting tank. Now what should not happen happens - a wrong cask is taken

whisky ends up in the tank before the mistake is realised.
So
technically speaking, the tank now contains a blended Scotch in the ratio

holy shit! And you can't get the grain out. This
the guys from Living Souls have secured this lot and bottled it as a ‘99+1’
blended scotch.
Like a visit to a spice market:
rich sherry notes meet sweet smoke, and smoked ham
accompanied by dried oranges, chilli and black pepper.
sea salt and tobacco with every sip. A poem!

With these bottlings, Living Souls want to bring more than just whisky into the bottle. The name reflects the philosophy – their small batch bottlings, with an edition of 1050 – 1200 bottles, are intended to tell stories, awaken sensory impressions and memories. Instead of classic tasting notes, there are therefore also beautiful moments presented to which the respective whisky could fit.

The appealing labels also convey joie de vivre. Mixed media collages adorn the labels on the pretty bottles, small works of art with elements from the respective regions of Scotland and the aromas and flavours of the bottlings.

The single cask was produced by Monique Destribats in 1985 in the picturesque village of Labastide d'Armagnac, which stands on sandy soils. Consisting of half Baco and half Colombard grapes, this rarity was continuously distilled to 60% and bottled in January 2025 at a still cask strength of 40% vol.

Its beautiful amber colour with mahogany and gold nuances leads to remarkably fine aromas. Candied orange peel, nougat and gingerbread meet acacia honey, liquorice, vanilla and fresh tobacco. The palate impresses with great balance, a velvety mouthfeel and a freshness that defies the long ageing process.

It is located on the River Tay on the edge of the village of the same name and belongs to the region of the southern Highlands. Formerly distilled in the Highlands, the whisky matured in a refill sherry hogshead and is limited to 174 bottles.
The taste is extremely intense and should also delight whisky connoisseurs. Cherries, dark fruits, dark chocolate. A little lighter and brighter at the beginning than in the course, very full-bodied with a distinct texture. The finish is very long-lasting and fruity.
