The whisky was initially matured in American oak and subsequently finished in ex-sherry European oak casks. The barley used comes entirely from the distillery's own maltings—one of the few in Scotland that still malts its own grain. The result is a harmonious, elegant interpretation of the classic Balvenie style, featuring warm biscuit aromas and honeyed toffee on the nose, candied ginger and raisins on the palate, and a full-bodied, velvety-smooth finish.

]]> The name Balvenie is infered by the castle Balvenie which is located close by and means as much as ‘city of luck’. It is one of many distilleries of the village Dufftown, the secret ‘capital of whisky’ in the Speyside and is also named as ‘little sister’ of Glenfiddich. The distillery was built in 1892 nearly by one’s own hands by William Grant & Sons out of the ruins of the guesthouse. Today the distillery owns more than eight stills and since 1990 there is another distillery on the compound named Kininvie. The water that is used has its origin in the spring Robbie Dubh, the same spring Glenfiddich uses its water from.

It matured in American oak barrels and was finished in sherry barrels from Jerez. This combination results in a sweet note of honey and fruit with spicy oak notes and a hint of peat smoke.

]]> Usually the Malt Whisky has the name of the distillery it is produced in – but AnCnoc comes from the Knockdhu distillery (and the whisky used to have that name too). The name was changed in 1993 to prevent confusion with Knockando.
