Although this process no longer allows this ‘Brandy Français’ to be bottled as Armagnac, it does reveal the region's new potential.

Five-year-old Armagnac was refined in French red wine barrels for the Borderline Brandy Français - Pinot Noir Finish. They gave it unexpected flavours of cherry brandy, blackcurrants, toast and smoke.

]]> Francis Darroze and his son Marc roam the Gascony countryside in search of treasure. The objects of their search? Special Armagnacs. Around forty estates from the heart of the Bas-Armagnac region contribute to the Darroze’s exceptional collection. The independent bottlers purchase their distillates either using a mobile distiller, which traditionally makes its rounds after the harvest, or already stored in barrels. These often rare, multi-generational barrels or eaux-de-vie from small producers are perfected in the house’s own cellars.

]]> Glencadam Reserve de Burgundy – 46% https://www.whizita.de/en/product/glencadam-reserve-de-burgundy-46/ Mon, 10 Jul 2023 11:21:31 +0000 https://www.whizita.de/?post_type=product&p=151235 The complex influence of butts, barrels and barriques - all of which are pre-aged with (fortified) wines - is demonstrated by Glencadam in a new Wood Finish Series, consisting of five neither chill-filtered nor coloured single malts at ideal drinking strength.

The Glencadam Reserve de Burgundy received a finish in former Pinot Noir wine casks. These Pinot Noir casks give it a sweet, oily character with notes of blackcurrant, coffee and ginger.

]]> Glencadam, which translates as “Valley of the Wild Goose”, was commissioned in Brechin in 1825. Most of the production is used for the Ballantines brand. After 180 years in the whisky waiting loop, Glencadam took the step out of the shadow of the blend industry onto the stage of the original bottlers. But rather quietly. Their “East Highlands” single malt made from unpeated barley malt is still considered an insider tip today.
The whiskies, which are up to 30 years old and neither coloured nor chill-filtered, are produced in two original copper pot stills, just as they were in the founding days of the small distillery. Due to their construction, these produce a particularly delicate and soft spirit. This is because the Lyne arms run at an angle of 15 degrees upwards, not downwards.

]]> The distillery was founded in 1966 and is located next to the River Livet near Tomnavoulin in the Speyside. The water the distillery uses, has its orign in underground springs.
