Stuart Urquhart personally selected a first-fill sherry hogshead for this release, in which the distillate has been allowed to develop its exceptional complexity since 2012. Bottled in 2026, the whiskey is presented in its purest form: unfiltered at cold temperatures and in its natural color, drawn directly from the cask into the bottle.

]]> The distillery is located north of Port Askaig on the island of Islay, right on the Islay Sound. It was built in 1846 and, since 1974, has featured a completely rebuilt stillhouse that was expanded to include six stills. The distillery, which offers a wonderful view of the island of Jura, is now owned by Diageo. Caol Ila is a prime example of a “workhorse” distillery that primarily produces whisky for blends—in this case, for Johnnie Walker.

Caramel remains ever-present, yet there’s also a hint of lemon cake, sweet and full-bodied. Bottled at 46% ABV.

]]> The Craigellachie is located in the Speyside. It was founded by Peter Mackie and others and built in 1891. In 1964 the distillery was extended to owning four stills. Nowadays the distillery is owned by Bacardi Martini. The water that is used came from the Hill of Little Conval, but today it comes from the Blue Hill.

This Swedish single malt whisky from the Agitator distillery was distilled in 2018 and bottled in 2023 for the Collective #1 series after maturation in a first-fill sherry hogshead.

"With a complex body, this Swedish whisky greets the nose with notes of mushroom and moss. Subsequent notes of fine peat smoke and umami follow. The Berry Bros. & Rudd Agitator is full-bodied and spicy on the palate. It tastes of leather, waffles, and pastries. [Subsequent notes]" There are maritime salt notes and smoke. The finish is spicy and long-lasting. The Agitator bids farewell with smoke and dried fruit.

]]> Sweden only moved onto the whisky map after Mackmyra was founded in the late 1990s. With Smögen Whisky, the young whisky nation has another landmark. The distillery is named after a Swedish picture-perfect fishing village in the Skagerrak. However, it owes its popularity among connoisseurs in and outside Sweden to its intensely smoky small batch single malts, which are now also available in Germany.

The whiskys are handcrafted down to the last drop. The hands belong to the founder, lawyer, whisky enthusiast and author Pär Caldenby, who was able to separate the tailings from the heart of a distillate at Smögen Whisky for the first time in August 2010. He built his craft distillery from scratch in the outbuildings of a former farm. These house, among other things, two small copper pot stills (one only holds 900 liters), bourbon and sherry casks as well as a “worm tub condenser” – a cooling system that has become rare, which makes the raw spirit heavier and fuller.

In general, the following applies to Smögens single malts: They are powerful, distinctive drops with a clear smoky note, maritime echoes and malty sweetness. For Heavily Peated Swedish Single Malts in the same peat weight class as Caol Ila or Ballechin, Caldenby imports peat malt from Scotland.

]]> The distillery Linkwood was founded in 1821 by Peter Brown and completely rebuilt by his Sohn William in 1871. It is located in the Speyside, south of Elgin next to the Lossie and surrounded by forest. The water that is used for producing the whisky comes from springs of the Loch Milbuis. Nowadays Linkwood is owned by Diageo.
