Port Charlotte PMC:01 is the latest release in the coveted Cask Exploration series and showcases the complexity and versatility of the heavily peated Islay single malt and the profound influence the species has had of the barrel on the fresh distillate. The sixth bottling of the Cask Exploration series matured in Pomerol casks for the first time. Pomerol, an AOC area northeast of Bordeaux, is home to some of the finest and most sought-after red wines in the world, characterized by their deep color and ripe plum aromas. Pomerol wine is proud of its place of origin and takes advantage of the region's terroir. The appellation, with its warm climate, is characterized by the famous blue clay, gravel and sand that give flavor to the vines. The connection to the hometown is shared by the wine and whiskey of the Bruichladdich distillery, which was conceived, distilled, matured and bottled exclusively on Islay. In the Port Charlotte PMC:01, this composition finds expression in the fruity oak of the Pomerol barrels and the salty maritime note. Despite fundamentally different regions, a balance of oak, fruit and gentle peat smoke succeeds.

Official Tasting Note:

The one with 54.5% vol. Bottled and Peated to 40ppm Port Charlotte OMC:01 2013 was first aged in Bourbon casks for four years before being transferred to Pomerol casks for the final five years of its aging.

Aroma: Warm peat smoke and red fruits, pear, melon and a subtle maritime nuance. Delicate rose and geranium notes. Vanilla, honey, leather and toasted oak. Over time, the PMC:01 smells of cloves and ginger with a wonderful hint of marzipan.

Flavour: Malt sugar and peat smoke. Great viscosity that fills the entire mouth. The Pomerol cask brings out aromas reminiscent of blackberries, plums and aged leather - the perfect balance between wood and fruit.

Finish: Soft, maritime notes, mussels, some citrus zest and that typically elegant, demanding peat smoke that you can only find in a Port Charlotte.

For the first time in the Cask Exploration series, the Port Charlotte SYC: 01 was matured mainly in Syrah barrels. The French producer shares our philosophy and passion for the terroir and has specialised in the production of organic and biodynamic wines, in which the soil and climate have a decisive influence on the process. Minimal intervention allows the different regions and soils to reveal their true character, making the wines - much like our Islay single malt whiskies - a truly authentic expression of their terroir. The Syrah, a red wine known for its powerful and full
and full body, has given SYC: 01 rich notes of red fruits and layers of spice that complement the characteristic aromatic peat smoke of Port Charlotte.
peat smoke of Port Charlotte.

Nose: The sweetness of caramel is immediately apparent on the nose, followed by a blend of fresh fruit and a subtle hint of peat smoke. Notes of strawberries, red apples, apricot jam and mixed berries from the Syrah casks come to the fore, underpinned by a combination of oak and lingering smoke. Gentle spices from the oak together with ginger, marzipan and honey complement the fruity character, which is further enhanced by the oak smoked over the fire.

Flavour: Toasted oak and elegant barbecue smoke envelop the palate, beautifully balanced with sweet fruit. Vibrant notes of candied peel, fresh mango, brown sugar and sweet chewing gum add lightness and complexity that cut through the smoke. A drop of water brings out the aromatic oak, while lavender and herbal notes combine with gentle honey, ground ginger and roasted coffee beans.

Finish: While the sweetness of fruit and oak remains, a gentle wave of peat smoke is unmistakable on the finish. Roasted Brazil nuts, coconut and cocoa powder lend a delicate creaminess, while a hint of dried seaweed lingers.

GLENMORANGIE HIGHLAND SINGLE MALT SCOTCH WHISKY CASK No. 0009
A Tropical and Toasty Whisky

UNIQUE CASK HISTORY
Cask No. 0009 captivated Dr Bill Lumsden as it matured in the cool, calm surroundings of Warehouse 32. This rare cask gives Glenmorangie a toasty and tropical twist.
The spirit was distilled on Tuesday 6th July 1999, under the watchful eye of Graham Eunson, then Glenmorangie's experienced Distillery Manager. Then it was laid down in a secret selection of casks, known only to Dr Bill and his trusted team. Some 17 years later, Dr Bill was delighted by the whisky's singular character. And inspired to enhance it still further, he transferred the whisky into a first-fill American oak bourbon cask which would highlight Glenmorangie's classic notes. Finished in this way for a further four years, Cask No. 0009 reveals a unique complexity, layering Glenmorangie's hallmark creamy, fruity taste with spice and tropical sweetness.

DR BILL'S PERSONAL TASTING NOTES
COLOUR: Gold.
AROMA: Sweet and fruity, with mandarin orange, peach and nectarine. Rum and-raisin ice-cream soon emerges alongside sandalwood and cedar, laced with vanilla and crème caramel. A little water opens up notes of mango and lychee.
TASTE: First comes a burst of passion fruit and peach sprinkled with demerara sugar. Toasted caramel follows on with cinnamon and ginger. Finally crystallized ginger, toasted almond and orange unite in a gloriously long finish.

Glenmorangie started producing in 1843 in an reconstructed brewery. In 1887 the distillery was completely new constructed. It is located in the northern Highlands in Tain. Stories tell that its whisky has never been sold for making blends. There used to be an old rule that claimed that there should always be sixteen men in the distillery making the whisky. This is why the distillery is also known under the name ‘ The sixteen men of Tain’. Glenmorangie even has own forests where it gets its wood for the casks from. Therefore it has a big impact on the development of using different wood and cask types during making whisky. Today the distillery is owned by Louis Vuitton Moet Hennessy.

This 14-year-old Glen Moray has been bottled for the new series called "Cask Noir Productions" by Brave New Spirits. Each whisky in this series is available as a single cask at cask strength as well as unfiltered and uncoloured. Due to the maturation in a first fill bourbon barrel, the typical aromas of a Glen Moray characteristically come to the fore.
