Caol Ila 2011 “Slainté” 10cl Sample – 59,4%

For 25 years now, the Flickenschild company from Itzehoe has been bringing its own whisky bottlings to the market. In addition to cooperations with other independent bottlers and original distillery bottlings, the company also repeatedly fills its own casks in Scotland.

After a total of 14 bottlings have been bottled in the Scottish Roadsign series over the last few years, the new “Slainté” series is now starting with three bottlings. Together with the Hamburg artist Mats Matthée, a series was created that illustrates various Scottish toasts. The first bottlings include two smoky whiskies from the Caol Ila Distillery on the island of Islay and a Speysider from the Auchroisk Distillery.

Tasting Notes: On the nose, distinct smoke aromas, cold campfire, leather and ripe dark berries in the background. Very complex on the palate – the fruity, vinous notes are clearly noticeable. Added to this is a delicate marzipan-like and very pleasant bitter note. The smoky aromas always remain present, but never come to the fore.
