Bruichladdich 2011 The Organic – 50%

The Islay Bruichladdich Distillery, whose name means ‘beach corner’, was built in 1881 by the Harley brothers. After the distillery had been closed for some time, it was announced on 12/20/2000 that it would soon be back in operation. Already in May 2001 the first new make flowed from the stills. The success of Bruichladdich is closely linked to the work of one of the most important men in the Scottish whiskey scene – Jim McEwan. In 2012 the distillery changed hands again for £58m. Current owner is Remy Cointreau.

In 2003 we received organic barley from Mid Coul Farm for the first time. With their manageable
2,755 acres and a highly progressive approach to absolute biodiversity, soil regeneration and an in-house energy production, recycling and fertilization concept, it is the ideal partner for our Organic Single Malt. The Rose family have been running Mid-Coul Farm in the north of Scotland since 1912. Their way of growing organic barley is based on the combination of using the latest technology and the knowledge and awareness of their ancestors with regard to an optimal balance between nature and people – i.e. cultivation without artificial fertilizers or pesticides. The most important thing for successful organic farming is to avoid monocultures. That is why our organic barley is grown alternately with other raw materials and is therefore not ready for harvest every year. Soil, climate and precipitation have an impact on taste. The result is the
pure expression of the terroir in which the plant was allowed to grow. Slowly distilled and matured on Islay, our organic is a single malt that, like no other, is able to combine the past and the future, people and nature in an enjoyable way, a real enrichment in our Bruichladdich Barley Provenance series.
