As is customary for the French overseas departments, the "vieux Rhum" is distilled from freshly pressed sugar cane juice in the column still. It matures tropically in French oak for four years, leaving the barrel at 58% vol. Visually and aromatically, the FRC conveys Caribbean joie de vivre: oak and spice are followed by coffee beans, dark chocolate, a hint of citrus fruits and fine sweetness.

However, the history of Indian whisky on a Scottish level only began around the turn of the millennium. And it began with Amrut. India's flagship distillery was the first in the country to produce genuine single malt and established its quality whisky from Bangalore around the globe. The ambitious distillers rely on small-grained and thus sweeter Indian barley from the foot of the Himalayas. Only for peated bottlings does Amrut use barley malt from Scotland.
For an exclusive European bottling, the experimental friends rely on Andalusian cask material. At 60% Cask Strength, the Amrut Oloroso Cask 2015/2022 combines slightly peated Indian single malt with the dark-fruity, nutty character of the former sherry cask. 480 bottles of the 7-year-old exotic (although they were apparently a little unsure about the bottling month) were bottled.

]]> The most important Indian distillery Amrut in Bangalore was founded in 1948 by Shri J.N. Radhakrishna founded. Amrut Whiskey is made from Indian barley that comes from the fields at the foot of the Himalayas. The water used comes from the same region. The storage in oak barrels takes place at an altitude of 900 meters in Bangalore, the “garden city” of India.

]]> The distillery Benriach is located south of the city Elgin next to the distillery Longmorn and therefore belongs to the Highlands. It was founded in 1898 and already closed down again in 1900, before it was re-opened not until 65 years later. As one of a few of Scotlands distilleries it has its own malting floors. Since 2008 Glendronach and Glenglassaugh belong to the Benriach Distillery Co. Ltd.

]]> The Craigellachie is located in the Speyside. It was founded by Peter Mackie and others and built in 1891. In 1964 the distillery was extended to owning four stills. Nowadays the distillery is owned by Bacardi Martini. The water that is used came from the Hill of Little Conval, but today it comes from the Blue Hill.
