This is one of the first releases from the Nagahama distillery. Since the distillery does not yet have enough of its own whiskey, the whiskey was blended with matured distillates from around the world. Edition no. 2 was also finished in former red wine casks, which give the whisky a fruity character.

Nagahama may be Japan’s smallest distillery at around 8 tsubo (26 square meters), but it is playing a good role as part of a new generation of distilleries emerging across Japan. The distillery has been in operation since 2016.

In addition to the first new bottlings, mini barrels were also manufactured and sold so that fans can age the whisky themselves in just a few weeks. These were made from American oak and charred like normal barrels.

The unique shape of the small potstill located in Nagahama is said to give the spirit a richer taste and more depth.
